The Ideal Candidate for this position will be a Generator Insulation and Non-Metallics Mechanical Engineering individual contributor responsible for the conceptual design, performance analysis, and verification of product components and systems. They will be familiar with the application of Chemical, Thermo-Mechanical, Electrical and Physical (Mechanical) properties of materials. They will also interface and support manufacturing, suppliers, and business partners to assure that design and test intent from conceptual definition to finished product is achieved.


  • Learn and test high voltage insulation systems and non-metallic materials used in large electrical generators.
  • Define mechanical performance requirements and specific development, process improvement, and qualification programs for stator and rotor electrical insulation & nonmetallic materials.
  • Develop electrical, mechanical, and assist with chemical testing plans for insulation/nonmetallic materials and oversee or perform actual tests as needed. Interpret test results and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Work on RCA investigations for performance and warranty issues on generator rotor and stator insulation/nonmetallic materials.
  • Develop and validate testing methods related to polymer-based insulation systems, as well as analytical troubleshooting of instrumentation, equipment, and test methods.
  • Provide lab support for tooling and test equipment development.
  • Define/perform lab equipment maintenance with internal facilities repair and external equipment vendors.


  • BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to understand high voltage insulation systems and related non-metallic materials.
  • Strong analytical, experimental, statistical aptitude
  • Ability to be a cross-functional team leader with good interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with mica-based insulation materials
  • Experience with epoxy, polyester, and Silicone chemistries
  • Experience with rotating electrical machinery or electric power engineering
  • Experience with mechanical testing for stress strain relationships, HCF/LCF, life cycle testing
  • Experience with thermal classification of materials
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management skills, and be and effective team player.
