High Voltage Electrical Lab Test Engineer

The Ideal Candidate will develop full power testing per high voltage LOTO procedures and troubleshoot issues as the product is tested to maximize operation potential to push beyond initial specifications resulting in greater company profit margins per watt of operation.  Define stressed components to operate at the next higher power level and recommend design improvements.  This is not a circuit board testing position; you will need to understand and have experience testing energy generating equipment. Field Service Engineering Experience Beneficial. GE retirees encouraged to apply. Experience with testing new wind and solar inverter products 1.5 – 2.3 MW highly desirable.

  • Define stressed components
  • Recommend design improvements
  • Develop, implement, setup and operate state of the art data acquisition systems and instrumentation to measure temperature, pressure, flow, strain, vibration, clearance, dynamics etc. for engineering development tests for Component & Development Test COE of Power and Water Engineering Division.
  • Customize on-line engineering analysis and calculation programs and data displays as needed.
  • Maintain and manage test data storage and archival while maintaining system security.
  • Provide data reduction, analysis and processing of raw engineering test data including dynamic data both in real time and/or post-test.  Dynamic data analysis can be in time and/or frequency domain using well-established software tools and/or new tools as needed.
  • Working with IT departments and with other team members, set up and maintain network connectivity for remote data monitoring and transmit engineering test data from remote locations to Power & Water Engineering Division development centers.
  • Work with test and design engineers to plan and develop data systems to execute CDT COE customer tests and support engineering tests both in the field and in house.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Candidate must possess equivalent BS in electrical engineering with 4+ years’ experience, preferably in a Renewable
  • Experience with full power testing per high voltage
  • Experience with energy tests or commissioning function.
  • Experience in execution of industrial equipment tests.
  • Experience with Controls and/or Power (Energy) Electronics
  • Familiar with data acquisitions systems and test equipment.
  • Documentation of test results per ISO procedures
  • Support set up and facility trouble shooting as required.
  • Configures, operates, and maintains instrumentation and data acquisition systems utilized by PCLS.
  • Computer skills (MS Excel, Lab View etc.)
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures used within the Energy Industry
  • Primary job functions typically require exercising independent judgment.
  • Typically reports to a lead engineer or functional manager.
